How to Keep Your Students Engaged
Nowadays, due to the advent of social media, it is easy to lose the attention of your students. They have shorter attention span that is why you need to make sure that they are engaged whenever you are teaching them so they can learn a lot from you. By not considering that factor, you will surely fail in teaching and inspiring them as much as you want to.
This is the reason why passion is necessary if you are in the field of education. Teaching was never meant to be easy. In fact, it is very difficult because you have to relate to each of your students and make sure that they are earning as much as they can.
You will also have to know their issues so you can easily find solutions to their problems once they arise in the classroom. However, this is not the usual case when you are teaching. It was never easy because you sometimes experience complications when it comes to their learning abilities and their willingness to learn.
Some Techniques on Keeping Them Engaged
No Phones in Class
This is an important distinction when you are teaching in your class. You should not allow any gadget to be used whatever the context is. You are just opening yourself to more trouble if you allow them to use their phones while you are discussing. If possible, just use whatever materials you have in order for them to follow your lesson.
Introduce a Lot of Games and Activities
This is one sure way to help your students maintain their focus and control. Most of your students like to play around. And there is no reason that they cannot. So instead of having too many lectures, why not use some games in order to make the session livelier. Since most kids like to play, this will be a great tool in order for them to gain more interest in the lesson.
Don’t Be Overly Uptight
As they say, kids will always be kids. They will like to play as much as possible so don’t take it against them if they can’t focus. No, it is not a testament of how you handle your class as they will always do that no matter who the teacher is. So don’t get too uptight with them as that’s their nature. However, slowly discipline and guide them so they’ll learn how to listen. Do not force them to do what they don’t want to do but instead, slowly guide them so they will do what you want by themselves. If you start to use fear so they will follow you, you will have a hard time because they will surely fight back and that is not what you want.
